Topic 1 - HI2
The following are links that relate to the content of the first topic in HI2. The aim of this section of the course is that you are able to differentiate between individual and group based approaches to interaction. It does this in two ways:
- The academic approach - compares and contrasts the academic views of interaction taken by HCI and CMC
- The 'popular culture' approach - examines the every-day use of terms Virtual Reality and Virtual Environments
- Discourse and Distortion in Computer-Mediated Communication - http://www.itcs.com/elawley/discourse.html
Computer-mediated communication (CMC) and its effects on the patterns of communication among its participants.
- HCI Bibliography - http://www.hcibib.org/
Search over 19,600 records in the HCIBIB. It contains definitions of HCI, recommended reading, etc.
- The Imagined Electronic Community - http://eserver.org/internet/community/community.html
Explores how on-line community has been represented in business texts, in particular those describing internet commerce. The paper examines some of the changes that occur between 1994 and 1999 with respect to how the concept of community is represented.
