Matthew L. Saxton is an assistant professor in the Information School of the University of Washington. His primary research interest is in question-answering behaviour, intermediation and the evaluation of library and information services. His book, Understanding Reference Transactions (2002), applies hierarchical linear modelling to investigate the factors that contribute to success in responding to reference questions in public libraries. He received the 1997 ALISE Methodology Award.
