Biography

Joan Kang Shin is a full-time lecturer in the Education Department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). She is the Coordinator of Online and Off-campus Programs in the ESOL/Bilingual Education Master's Program. In addition, she is also a doctoral candidate in the Language, Literacy and Culture Doctoral Program at UMBC. As a teacher trainer in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Joan embraces both online and face-to-face teaching environments. Her current research revolves around building successful virtual Communities of Practice (vCoPs) for TESOL teaching professionals around the world.
