Biography

Dr. Valerie Anderson (Chartered MCIPD, BA (Hons), M.Ed, PhD) is a Principal Lecturer in HRM at Portsmouth Business School in the UK. Before her career in Higher Education, she gained extensive HRM and HRD management and consultancy experience in a range of different public and private sector organisations. Valerie now undertakes extensive teaching and research into how people learn, particularly informal learning and the learning of professionals. In particular, she is involved in research in the UK into flexible working, informal learning and 'communities of practice' in higher education environments. She is author of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) textbook Research Methods in HRM.
